Best Songs to Play Guitar Easy but Impresses

Below you will find some of my favourite easy beginner guitar songs for budding guitarists from around the web. I've created this resource to try to keep you keen and get some quick wins under your belt when starting out on your guitar playing journey!

Feel free to share it with your family or friends or anyone you think would get some value from it.

Without further ado here's our selection of easy beginner guitar songs..

Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd

Check out Andy's awesome lesson on how to play Pink Floyd's folky classic "Wish You Were Here". This is an epic tune that is also very beginner-friendly for new guitarists. There are even a few single notes to try and get your fingers around but if you're not quite there yet, just strum the chord pattern and it should still sound great.

Knockin' on Heavens Door -Bob Dylan (One of the ultimate easy beginner guitar songs!)

Here's another fine lesson from Marty on Bob Dylan's "Knocking On Heavens Door". This is one of the ultimate easy beginner guitar songs to learn. In the key of C, it uses only 3 chords and once you get comfortable with them you can start mixing up the rhythms like you can see Marty doing here.

Freefallin' – Tom Petty (Another fine example of easy beginner guitar songs!)

Another excellent lesson here from Justin on Tom Petty's "Freefallin". This song will help you with your timing. The capo on the 3rd fret gives the chords a nice bright sound too. This is a great number for sitting round the campfire on a warm summers evening.

Times Like These – Foo Fighters

An epic lesson from the Nail Guitar YouTube channel. This is a great song to strum along to but as you'll find in the lesson, there are some other cool parts as well that will make your practice more interesting and ensure you are making progress.

Hey Joe – Jimi Hendrix (Another one of those awesome easy beginner guitar songs!)

Playing Hendrix already, huh?! Here's a nice and easy beginners guitar lesson on "Hey Joe" by Gene. This song has some wonderful open chord voicings to get your fingers round. Once you've nailed this version there are plenty other lessons online showing you the more "Hendrix" style licks.

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) – Green Day

Here's a fresh faced Marty from Guitar Jamz showing us the chords to this catchy folk-style number by Green Day. There are a few old faves from every guitarists open chord repertoire to play around with here so enjoy!

Stand By Me – Ben E. King

A fine rendition of Ben E. Kings "Stand By Me" with Rob from the Swift Lessons YouTube channel here. This is a simlified version and another prime example of easy beginner guitar songs to help you keep your friends entertained and loving your playing.

Get a copy of the chords here, you can also add a capo to the 2nd fret for the same key as the original.

Wonderwall – Oasis

Another one for every beginner guitarists repertoire. This is an excellent breakdown of Oasis' hit "Wonderwall" by Dave from the GuitarZero2Hero YouTube chanenel. This is a great song to learn to improve your strumming.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper

This catchy little number is another one of those easy beginner guitar songs that are fun to learn. This is a super simple lesson from Eric on Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".

Here are the actual chords Eric uses when adding a capo to the 6th fret and it's just your C, Am, F and G shapes played there giving it a nice bright and almost calypso type sound.

Imagine – John Lennon

Mimic the piano accompaniment to this masterpiece with just a handful of chords. Here's a nice and easy lesson from the 5 Minute Guitar YouTube channel of John Lennon's "Imagine".

No Woman No Cry – Bob Marley

Here's another one of those easy beginner guitar songs to keep you keen. Here's a nice and simple tutorial from the Good Guitarist YouTube channel to help you get the hang of it quickly.

Heroes – David Bowie

This is another awesome song to strum away at. Here's another quick and easy lesson by Justin on how to play David Bowie's "Heroes".

Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison

A classic tune and also another great beginners guitar song for you to extend your repertoire. Here's a nice easy lesson on Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" by Alan Robinson. Impress your nearest and dearest with that iconic intro riff too.

(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay – Otis Redding

Add this wonderful soulful number to your collection and improve your rhythm playing in the process. Here's a comprehensive lesson from the Your Guitar Success YouTube channel on Otis Reddings' "The Dock of the Bay".

Baby Can I Hold You – Tracy Chapman

A wonderful ballad with some interesting suspended chord patterns. This is another well laid out lesson from Alan Robinson's YouTube channel on Tracy Chapman's "Baby Can I Hold You".

Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton

Every guitarist needs a Clapton number in their locker and here's a great one to get started with. Here's an easy but in-depth lesson from Swift Lessons. on "Wonderful Tonight".

In My Place – Coldplay

This song is a great introduction to barre chords as well as being a beautiful and melodic song to play and sing a long to. This is a great lesson with chord box diagrams from the Musik Man YouTube channel on Coldplay's "In My Place"

Save Tonight – Eagle Eye Cherry

Here's Marty again with a catchy little number that will advance your rhythm playing. Eagle Eye Cherry's "Save Tonight" will challenge your right hand technique but most of the open chords should be quite familiar to you by now.

There She Goes – The La's

Again this track has a cool little intro riff you could have a go at. This indy anthem is another one of the easy beginner guitar songs you could master in no time. Here's the Masterclass YouTube channel with a nice quick lesson on The La's "There She Goes".

What Have You Done – Gerry Cinammon

Here's one you can really rock out to with Gerry Cinnamon. "What Have You Done" features a lot of the chords you will have come across before but there are some quick changes. I couldn't find a tutorial for this one so here's the main man himself playing it at the TRNSMT music festival.

Hide Your Love Away – The Beatles

Well, we couldn't leave The Beatles out could we? Here's Justin again with "Hide Your Love Away". A great melodic tune from the fab 4. Some quite fast changes to get into and an epic chorus for the last, but by no means least on our list.

Here's a decent version of the chords here. It's similar to Justin's version but leave your pinky on the top string on the 3rd fret to create more authentic chord voicings.
